Paradox of desire

Paradox of desire

Rdl creates painting and photography connecting visual fantasy with the peculiarity of reality.
Rdl explores the tension between the cultural and natural world while investigating the relationship of desires and facts. He calls it the paradox of desire
RDL explores the border between personal and universal imagery. Inspired by his own recollection of everyday scenes and current and older magazines, RDL creates mysterious and often subconscious images. He is asking himself where are we searching for ?
In this exhibition RDL presents the works entitled The great sleep under the blossom tree. In this work he sets up the alluring spring scene consisting floral patterns in a life-size painting. Human portraits stand next to these to wander where they are going to. The painting invites the viewer to come with the artist and meet the nature under the exaggerated beauty of the blossom scenery.
RDL was born in Heiloo, Nederland in 1962. he has been living and studying in and around Amsterdam since 1985. he graduated from the Academy in Amsterdam in painting. Since 2005 he had been working at the centre of Amsterdam in his studio on this theme in several paintings, drawings, collages and photographs.
